'KAH' graffiti on Strabane war memorial 'disturbing'
Those who spray painted sectarian hate graffiti on a war memorial in Strabane town have been condemned.
The war memorial on Derry Road was targeted at the weekend with ‘KAH’ spray painted onto it, meaning ‘Kill All Huns’ – ‘Huns’ being a derogatory reference to Protestants.
Mark Brown from the Royal British Legion in Strabane said people were disturbed and saddened by the incident.
He said: “A memorial is for people who have fallen, and it didn’t matter what their religion was or politics were, but there’s an uneducated some people who go around disturbing others. We’re shocked and disgusted.”

Mr Brown said there has been positive community engagement and education initiatives in Strabane but said that it was “a real shame” that some people “try to disregard people; cancel people out”.
Mr Brown said some people were perplexed by the message as they didn’t know what it meant and were appalled when it was explained to them.
He added that the war memorial was among those, along with the memorial at the Diamond in Derry city centre and another in Castlederg which have been included in a project to refurbish the memorials over the coming years.
Police in Strabane confirmed they received a report on Monday of criminal damage caused to the War Memorial on Derry Road in the town. “It's reported the damaged cause - graffiti daubed on the memorial - may have happened sometime overnight, and is being treated as a sectarian-motivated hate crime. “Anyone with information that may assist enquiries is asked to report it by calling 101, quoting reference number 503 of 27/04/26 or report online via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/”
