Kingsfort plot to bekept as green space

A plot of land in the Kingsfort area is to be taken over by Derry City and Strabane District Council so that it can remain a green space forever.

The land transfer was rubber-stamped at a meeting of the Council’s February Governance and Strategic Planning Committee.

Sinn Féin Councillor and committee member, Mickey Cooper, welcomed the move to safeguard the green space in the Ardnarea/Lisnarea area.

He said: “I have been working with the owner of the green space in Ardnarea/Lisnarea for a number of years to arrange for the transfer of the land to the council so that it can remain as a greenspace in perpetuity.

“I am delighted to confirm that an item to complete the final stage of the land transfer was ratified at the council committee this week which should see the process completed by March/April.

“Once this is done, I will arrange for council to carry out some discreet improvements to the greenspace.
