George Hutton, a local tenor who has shared the stage with the likes of Hozier, Glen Hansard and Moyà Brennan, is currently spending lockdown in Navan with his girlfriend and her family.

Due to the conditions of the lockdown, which forbids people from travelling more than two kilometres, George found himself unable to leave after he went to visit.

He is now using their beautiful garden as the setting for his weekly ‘Quarantine Sessions’ and girlfriend Megan, who is also a singer, is assisting.

George, who has recently been appearing on the BBC as a judge for the School Choir of the Year competition, will be performing with other local musicians who he collaborated with on his recent album ‘Home’ every Sunday evening.

“I just hope that it lifts people’s spirits. I am a performer and I can’t just stop doing that,” George explained. “I decided a to find a way to keep doing that in the current situation.”

George admits that planning the session and compiling the footage has given him some focus during the lockdown.

“I just couldn’t sit around doing nothing anymore. The weekly sessions mean I have to practice and continue to develop my music. Like everyone, I was really struggling the first couple of weeks, but singing is so therapeutic for me.”

With people confined to their homes and seeking alternative ways to entertain themselves, George hopes that it will lead to new people discovering his music.

The global pandemic has meant that George has had to postpone the official launch of his second album ‘Home’, which is on sale now.

A series of concerts with Phil Coulter have also had to be postponed, however George says they are continuing to chat regularly about the possibility of releasing some songs together.
