New 24 home housing scheme in the Brandywell to get underway in March

Work on a new 24-home housing development in the Brandywell will commence next month, it’s been confirmed.

Sinn Féin Councillor Patricia Logue said the proposed scheme will provide much-needed affordable housing on the city’s southern fringes.

She was speaking after Habinteg Housing Association received planning permission for the development beside its existing scheme at Old City Court on the Letterkenny Road.

The association has been given the green light to build 12 apartments and 12 semi-detached dwellings at the riverside location.

Councillor Patricia Logue said: “This is a good news story for the area, with plans for 24 new homes being built on this site. The number of people waiting for a home in Derry has increased dramatically over the past few years and there is a very high demand for people looking to be housed in this part of the city.”

She said it was important the development proceeded in full consultation with local residents and that she would be working to ensure that this happened.
