Oscar-nominated star of ‘The Great Santini,’ ‘Caddyshack,’ ‘The West Wing’ and ‘CSI’ Michael O’Keefe to judge Martin McGuinness poetry competition

The Oscar-nominated Hollywood actor Michael O’Keefe has joined the judging panel of the inaugural Martin McGuinness poetry competition.

Mr. O’Keefe has appeared in films such as ‘Caddyshack,’ ‘The Pledge’ and ‘Michael Clayton’ and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role alongside Robert Duvall in ‘The Great Santini.’

He has also acted in hit TV series including M*A*S*H, The Waltons, Roseanne, The West Wing, Law and Order. House, Blue Bloods and CSI.

The New Yorker now writes poetry and is a Board member of the Black Mountain Zen Centre.

Also named on the judging panel for a ‘A Poem to Martin’ is the former Lord Mayor of Belfast Máirtín Ó Muilleoir.

Colette Bryce, editor of Poetry Ireland Review and a native of Derry, was previously confirmed as one of the judges.

Spokesperson for the Foundation, Paul Kavanagh said: “The Foundation is delighted with the response to date and wish to remind everyone that all entries must be submitted to [email protected] by 12 noon on Friday, March 5.

“The competition is in two sections, those under the age of 18 and those 18+ with a top prize of £1,000 being awarded to the winning entries with £500 going to the runners-up.

“The entries should reflect Martin’s legacy or his vision for a New Ireland and the poems can be in both Gaeilge and/or English.”
