Protest in Derry to oppose AI data centres ahead of major public forum on artificial intelligence
Environmental groups including Save the Moat, Save the Sperrins and The Environmental Gathering are set to stage a protest in Guildhall Square against the AI data centres in the North.
Organisers for the protest said there is growing concern about AI, hyperscale data centres, the influence of tech billionaires, the impact on our grid, jobs and creative industries, and the environmental consequences.
The protest in the Guildhall Square will take place on September 10 at 5:30pm, organisers said all are welcome and encouraged people to bring banners and placards.
The protest takes place just before a free public forum ‘AI and Our Society’ at 6pm that will explore the growing impact of artificial intelligence on society.

AI and Our Society invites people from across Northern Ireland to join a public discussion on how Artificial Intelligence is shaping communities, public services, education and the workplace.
Hosted by the AICC, an Ulster University-led initiative that advances awareness and responsible adoption of Artificial Intelligence.
