Set sail for summer as Donegal’s popular ferry services return
Donegal County Council has announced the return of both the Swilly Ferry service, linking Rathmullan and Buncrana, and the Lough Foyle Ferry service, linking Greencastle and Magilligan, for the 2026 summer season.
Both services will commence full operations on Friday 29 May 2026, providing an important and scenic connection for local communities, visitors, day trippers and those travelling throughout the north-west during the busy summer period.
The ferry services will operate seven days a week until mid-September, offering a convenient alternative route for passengers and helping to support tourism, local businesses and regional connectivity on both sides of Lough Swilly and Lough Foyle.
Donegal County Council said that the crossings remain a popular option each year for motorists, cyclists and foot passengers alike, while also giving travellers an opportunity to enjoy some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in the region.
Full timetable details, sailing updates and fare information are available from the ferry operators’ websites at www.loughfoyleferry.com and www.swillyferry.com.
