‘The people of Inishowen and Donegal have suffered more than most from road tragedies’ - TDs

Donegal TDs Pádraig Mac Lochlainn and Pearse Doherty have expressed their deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the local man and two children who died last night after a road tragedy in the Quigley’s Point area of the Inishowen peninsula.

A father and his two children aged six and 14 have died after their car skidded off a road and plunged into water in County Donegal.

Those who died have been named by Gardai as John Mullan and his children Tomas (14) and Amelia (6). Geraldine Mullan, wife of John and mother of the children, was the sole survivor. The family lived in Moville and were well known in the local area. They also ran a gardening centre in the north Inishowen town.

The father and children died after the vehicle they were travelling in lost control at Three Trees near Quigley’s Point in Inishowen at around 10.20pm on Thursday night.

The family had been on their way home to Moville after socialising in Derry city.

Deputy Mac Lochlainn said: “This is such a heartbreaking tragedy and myself and Deputy Pearse Doherty want to convey our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the man and two children who have died.

“The people of Inishowen and Donegal have suffered more than most from road tragedies over the years and we have no doubt that our people will do all that we can to support the devastated family at this terrible time and in the time ahead”.
