Weddings with up to six people now possible indoors in Derry

Betrothed couples can now wed in Derry indoors with up to six people present and up to 10 if either the bride or groom is terminally ill.

Up to 30 people are now allowed to attend outdoor weddings in Derry and Strabane as long as social distancing rules are adhered to.

Derry City and Strabane District Council said anyone with any queries should get in touch with the Registrar’s Office which is operating by appointment only to register births and for couples to collect their Marriage Schedules.

"Following new guidance from the NI Executive, you can get married indoors with six people in attendance (includes couple, two witnesses and officiant).

"If one of the parties is terminally ill you may get married in a place of worship with ten people present (which includes couple, two witnesses and officiant). Marriage can take place outdoors with up to 30 people in attendance (again this includes the couple, two witnesses and officiant). The 2m social distancing rules must be adhered to," a spokesperson said.
