Western Trust urgent appeal for staff to help cover care home shifts

The Western Health and Social Care Trust is appealing for staff to put their names forward and help in covering shifts as some of the Care Homes urgently need support.

A Trust post said: “Independent Care Homes in the Western Trust area are dealing with very challenging circumstances at present and it is vital that we support these facilities to deliver essential care.”

Donna Robinson, a nurse within the Western Trust is encouraging staff to take up the urgent appeal, just as she has done.

“I’m currently a student Health Visitor in the Trust, however, due to COVID19 and the current pandemic I have come out into my local community to help in the nursing homes. I see the value in this as we all need to pull together during these dark days.

“Patients are frightened, they are lonely, they are anxious and some of them are very ill. However, we can be the difference that they need and to provide good care.

“In 2016 I lost both of my parents quite suddenly and quite traumatically and those were very, very dark days for myself and my family. So I recognise that families are currently struggling with their loved ones being isolated from them.

“It is not easy to watch your loved ones through a window, however, we as health care professionals can be that connection to their loved ones on the family’s behalf.

“It is a privilege and an honour to be able to be in this position to look after the elderly in our community who matter so much.”

The Trust are looking in particular for care assistants, nurses (all bands), nursing assistants, social workers, social care support, Allied Health Professionals and domestic/catering services.
