Police raid home in hunt for member of Dublin murder gang

The PSNI have carried out a raid on a house in Strabane in the hunt for a suspected member of the gang that murdered Dublun gangland figure David Byrne.

The Irish Daily Star are reporting that the police raid happened in the County Tyrone town on Wednesday night and removed a number of items for examination. The 46-year-old suspect was photographed by journalists fleeing the scene of the murder which happened during a boxing weigh-in at the Regency Hotel in Dublin three weeks ago.

The paper says it is understood that the suspect was at the Strabane house just hours before the raid but was not there when the PSNI arrived.

A statement from the PSNI said: “Police conducted a search in Strabane on Wednesday night as part of an investigation into serious crime. There were no arrets.

It is believed that the man wanted by Gardai in connection to the killing has strong connnections to dissident republicanism.

Police in the Republic will also require a European Arrest Warrant to question him in connection with the murder.

Both the PSNI and An Garda Siochana have operated jointly in an attempt to catch the man.
