Duffy calls for emergency meeting to discuss Derry St. Patrick's Day parade in midst of coronavirus outbreak

An emergency meeting should be held to discuss whether or not the Derry St. Patrick's Day parade should take place in the midst of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, it's been declared.

Sinn Féin group leader on Derry City and Strabane District Council, Sandra Duffy, issued the call on Monday.

She said she would be asking the Mayor, Colr. Michaela Boyle, to convene an urgent meeting to make a decision.

"With the growing concerns about the spread of the coronavirus, I am calling on the Mayor to convene an urgent meeting of Council to discuss and decide on whether the St. Patrick's Day Parade should proceed.

"I have had numerous contacts from people in the city seeking an answer to what is happening. I believe that we as a Council need to put the health and welfare of citizens front and centre in our decision making," she said.
