Loyalist bands plan Derry Twelfth demos

A number of loyalist bands in Derry have notified the Parades Commission that they intend to hold local demonstrations on the Twelfth this year.

The Glendermott Valley Flute Band, which is based in Tullyally, has advised the Commission that up to 25 participants will take part in a parade through the estate on July 13.

From 1 p.m. on the Twelfth Bank Holiday Monday the proposed route will take the band along Tullyally Road, Church Brae, Ardmore Road, Milltown Crescent and Stevenson Park.

The band will then be returning via the same route at 4 p.m.

The Newbuildings-based Pride Of The Orange And Blue Flute Band, meanwhile, also intends marking one of the most important dates in the calendar of the loyal orders - the anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne.

Thirty participants will parade via Duncastle Road, Gortin Manor, Gortin Meadows, Primity Crescent, Primity Park, Primity Gardens, Duncastle Park, Victoria Road, Woodside Road, Silverbrook Park, Woodside Road, Rock Park, Hayfield Park and Foyle Crescent from 11.30 a.m. on July 13, according to a notice that has been submitted to the Commission.

An Orange lodge in Artigarvan has also indicated that one band and up to 30 people will take part in a parade from 10 a.m. in the village. The Leckpatrick Loyal Orange Lodge 251’s parade will travel from Artigarvan Hall on a circuit including Berryhill Road, Leckpatrick Road, Station Road, Art Road, Mountpleasant and Berryhill Gardens.

In Limavady the Star of the Roe Flute Band will parade through the town from 7.45 a.m. on the morning of July 13.

Its outward route will proceed via Crawford Square, Church Street, Ballyclose Street, Main Street, Market Street and Catherine Street to the Roemill Road Cenotaph.

Thirty participants are expected to take part. They will return from 8.35 a.m. via Protestant Street, Catherine Street, Linenhall Street, Main Street and Lower Main Street.
