A ballad penned in tribute to the late Martin McGuinness has become so popular it is now one place off the top of the Irish iTunes download charts.

The song entitled ‘Where My Heart Will Always Be’ was composed by local man Paul McGilloway and performed by local singer Ciara McCafferty.

It was first aired at the finale of the tribute night to Martin McGuinness last month.

A spokesperson for the Martin McGuinness Peace Foundation said: “Following the hugely successful online tribute to Martin on what would have been his 70th birthday, the Peace Foundation was contacted by many people seeking a copy of the ballad.

“Following discussions with the songwriter Paul McGilloway and singer Ciara McCafferty it was agreed to release the song online via iTunes and Spotify with all proceeds going to the Martin McGuinness Peace Foundation.

“We are obviously delighted to see how successful it has been and would like to thank all of those who have already downloaded the song. Hopefully we can continue to see it doing so well over the coming days and get it to number one.”
