Mayor to issue Christmas cards to help isolated

As the festive season fast approaches, the Mayor of Derry and Strabane Brian Tierney has launched a new initiative to help alleviate loneliness and isolation.

Members of the public are invited to get in touch with the Mayor’s Office to request a personalised Christmas Card to show someone that, despite the change in circumstances this year, they are still in people’s thoughts and hearts over the festive period.

Colr. Tierney said: “Christmas is a time to be surrounded by family and friends, and this year more than ever, we have a responsibility to reach out to those who are living alone, or who are shielding due to Coronavirus and may be feeling more isolated than ever.

“The Christmas Card Campaign is a very simple idea and one that I hope will provide an opportunity to convey our love to others in a safe and positive way. By sending a card, people can show they are still thinking of someone and reaching out to send them love and good wishes at this very difficult time.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their continued efforts to reduce the numbers of COVID cases locally.”

People are encouraged to contact the Mayor’s Office to provide details of anyone they feel would benefit from a bit of festive cheer by receiving a Mayoral Christmas Chard. Registration is open until 14 December 2020. Contact the Mayor’s Office directly by calling 02871376508 or by emailing [email protected]
