UUP Council leader Darren Guy says medical school can catalyse growth of university in Derry
The Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) leader on Derry City and Strabane District Council, Darren Guy, believes the development of a medical school at Magee will act as catalyst for further expansion of the Ulster University in Derry.
Alderman Guy welcomed the announcement on Monday that the Executive has agreed to give the go ahead for a new medical training school to open at the Ulster University’s Magee Campus in 2021.
He said: “This news is a real boost to both the city of Londonderry and the wider North West region. It is a vote of confidence in the University campus and I am confident it will be a catalyst for further growth and development at Magee.
“The current pandemic has highlighted just how vital the NHS is to all our lives, and the fact that we will be training doctors at Magee to enter the NHS will be a source of pride in this area.”
