Strong turnout hoped for Dungiven 10k race

St. Patrick's College in Dungiven is hoping for another strong turnout this weekend for their annual 5k and 10 races.

The third annual evemnt also includes a 5K family walk take place on Saturday, January 26th. Events start at 2:30pm.

School Principal, Michael Gormley said: “I look forward to welcoming back both local and visiting competitors on January 30th. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting so many people these past two years who travelled from near and far to support our road racing events and enjoyed their very positive feedback.”

Race organiser, Conor Lavery said: “We hope to encourage runners of all abilities to join us for this community event. Our 10K course remains the same as last season which was professionally measured and verified as a 10,000 metre route. This year will see the return of Oliver McCullough from Greencastle running club who will take responsibility for all the race time recording using a professional chip timing system, this should add to the competitive nature of the event especially for those hoping to better previous achievements.”

Police are warning motorists they should expect minor disruption in the area between 2.30pm and 4pm and are asked to be extra vigilant, especially on country roads.

Entry to the 10K and 5K events is being hosted online through Athletics NI at www.athleticsni.org this is also accessible through the school website. 10K competitors are welcomed from 15 years upwards at a price of £10.00 for club registered runners and £12.00 for non-registered runners and for the 5K from 11 years upwards at a price of £5.00 for club registered runners and £6.00 for non-registered runners. Race day registration opens at 12:00 Noon and closes at 2:15pm.
