'˜Summer Jamm' 2016 to run over two days

Derry City and Strabane District Council (D.C.S.D.C.) has announced that this year's '˜Summer Jamm' festival in Strabane will run over two days.

The proposal to increase the duration of the festival was approved at the monthly meeting of D.C.S.D.C.’s Business and Culture Committee in the Council Chamber in Strabane on Tuesday afternoon.

This year’s ‘Summer Jamm’ will take place on Saturday June 11 to Sunday June 12 and will cost the rate payer £25,000. An additional £2,000 has been set aside to market the event.

The festival theme for this year’s showpiece is ‘country-fest’ and will see the town centre transformed into a country fair to include live music, street theatre, a busking competition, family friendly activities, market stalls, animation and a carnival funfair.

On Saturday June 11 the festival will be located on Main Street, Castle Street and Butcher Street car park (to be closed to traffic for the duration of the event) in order to maximise town centre footfall. The daytime activity will be enhanced by an

evening music trail through local pubs and venues.

On Sunday June 11 the festival will be located on the Score Site/Canal Basin and will take the form of an afternoon concert. The concert will comprise of a local act supporting a headline country artist.

The aim of this year’s ‘Summer Jamm’ is to attract 6,500 visitors to Strabane town centre throughout the weekend for the various activities.
