Traffic disruption expected in Derry & Tyrone during Remembrance Sunday commemoration of WWI armistice

Motorists are advised of the potential for traffic disruption across Derry and Tyrone with a series of demonstrations planned to mark the 107th anniversary of the armistice that ended World War One.

Remembrance Day parades and services will be held across Derry City & Strabane District on Sunday.

These events will take place at different times, in different areas, including Derry city centre, in Newbuildings, Donemana, Newtownstewart, Strabane and Castlederg.

The PSNI say motorists should be aware of some possible impact on traffic and advised that police officers will be deployed to assist with any traffic issues that arise across the district.

Between 8.45am and 9.15am, a Royal British Legion organised service and wreath laying ceremony will take place at the War Memorial on Derry Road in Strabane.

In Newtownstewart, between 9.30am and 10.30am, there will be a similar wreath laying ceremony and parade. The parade will leave from Dublin Street in the village at 9.30am. The return parade is scheduled to take place between 12noon to 12.30pm.

In Derry, from 9.35am to 10.45am, there will be a parade leaving from Iona Terrace in the Waterside, via Spencer Road along Craigavon Bridge to The Diamond for a wreath laying service. The return parade is scheduled for 11.30am-12.30pm. This parade has been organised by the Royal British Legion.

Up to 700 participants and supporters are expected to take part with two bands, the William King Memorial Flute Band and the Britannia Band.

At 10.40am, another parade is scheduled from Bonds Street, making its way towards Lincoln Court for An Act of Remembrance and will make its way back to Bonds Street. This has been organised by the Ulster Defence Union, according to a Parades Commission notification.

Three hundred people and the Lindsay Mooney Memorial Flute Band are expected to take part.

In Newbuildings, between 2.30pm and 3.30pm there will be a parade and an Act of Remembrance. The parade will leave from the Community Centre.

In Castlederg, from 2.30pm, there will be a parade with participants moving off from Albert Street carpark for a wreath laying ceremony and an Act of Remembrance in The Diamond. The return parade will be from 4.30pm to 5pm.
