While there has been no official confirmation, the Journal understands that Lagg beach was used as a location for the eagerly awaited movie ‘The Northman,’ a Viking historical revenge film which stars Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Bjork and Willem Dafoe, among others.

Film crews were spotted on site in recent days, amid heavy security and it is believed they filmed at the location on one day earlier this week.

Ali Farren, the manager of Malin Head Community Centre said it had brought much excitement to the local area.

“It’s great that they came to the area, they obviously chose Malin Head for its beauty. They set up over a few days and there was a lot of chat locally. They were all parked up at Lagg Church and filmed on the beach, which was blocked off. It’s great to see Malin Head getting more publicity and being seen as one of the best film locations in the country,. As well as all the good publicity it brings, it also brings jobs to the area as many local people are employed on set. Everyone is delighted.”

Malin Head is no stranger to major movies, having previously featured in Star Wars: The Last Jedi with scenes filmed at Ireland’s most northerly point in 2016. It led to worldwide publicity and interest and launched the Star Wars festival at Malin Head, among other tourism initiatives. Malin Head and Inishowen were also chosen as locations for the films ‘Grabbers’ and ‘Shine of Rainbows.’ The Northman is a highly anticipated movie and is set at the turn of the 10th century.
