Coronavirus: Eight laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Derry and Strabane

Eight laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been detected in Derry and Strabane, according to the latest Public Health Agency (PHA) data.

As of 11.45 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, testing had resulted in 32 new positive cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the north to 241.

To date, ten people who have tested positive in the north have sadly died.

The latest daily surveillance report.shows that over the previous 24 hours there had been 32 new confirmed cases; and 344 more tests.

Three new deaths were confirmed since yesterday's daily report.

Eight confirmed cases have been reported in Derry and Strabane compared with between 75 in Belfast.

There have been five lab confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Causeway Coast and Glens area.

However, of the 3716 tests in the north sofar 391 have been conducted in the Western Trust, the lowest number of tests in any health authority, compared with 1,425 in the Belfast Trust, the highest number of tests.

Cases are predominantly clustered within Belfast LGD areas of residence.

There have now been 1805 confirmed cases in Ireland - 1564 in the south and 241 in the north.

Nineteen people have now died from the illness in Ireland - nine in the south and ten in the north.

These totals for the country as a whole are expected to rise when the Health Protection Surveillance Centre in the south releases its daily data this evening.
