Coronavirus: No COVID-19 update for Derry following dashboard error as total Irish death toll rises to 946

A new Department of Health COVID-19 dashboard has been temporarily suspended after reporting an error on Tuesday meaning there has been no update on cases in Derry and Strabane since Monday.

The Department of Health confirmed on Tuesday that a further nine people had sadly lost their lives to COVID-19 in the north bringing the total death toll in the jurisdiction to 216.

However, the department said the recently launched dashboard had reported an incorrect figure and that the report has been temporarily suspended until details can be verified.

The Department apologised for any inconvenience caused.

On Monday it had been confirmed that as of Sunday 15 people in Derry and Strabane had died after contracting COVID-19. Of those people tested in the Derry City & Strabane District Council area, the vast majority - 669 had been negative, while 124 people had tested positive.

However, due to the error in the dashboard no new data for the area has been released since then.

In the south meanwhile as of Tuesday at 1 p.m. it was reported that there had been 16,040 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

There have now been 730 laboratory confirmed COVID-19 related deaths in the 26 counties, bringing the total death toll in Ireland to 946.

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre in Dublin was informed on Tuesday that 44 more people diagnosed with COVID-19 in Ireland had died.

Thirty-seven deaths were located in the east, 2 in the west, 2 in the north-west and 3 in the south of the country.

The people included 26 females and 18 males while the median age of reported deaths was 87

Thirty-three people were reported as having underlying health conditions.

The HPSC reported that the validation of data this week resulted in the denotification of 1 death and that the figure of 730 deaths in the south reflected this.

An analysis of data from the HPSC, as of midnight, Sunday, April 19, (15,464 cases), revealed that in Donegal there had been 392 cases, which is 2.5 per cent of all cases in the south.
