Derry jobs at risk as Marks and Spencer announces it is to cut 7,000 jobs

Marks and Spencer has confirmed that job cuts announced today, Tuesday, do include stores in Northern Ireland.

It does not include stores in Republic of Ireland.

It was announced that the company is to cut 7,000 jobs across the UK.

A spokesperson told the Journal: “Across M&S, we need to accelerate our transformation to become a leaner, faster, more efficient business and deliver on our promise to make the positive ways we have worked during the pandemic permanent and ensure we are set up to serve our customers’ needs.”

“At this stage what we’ve announced is a reduction of c.7000 roles across the UK and we’re not breaking out changes by store or local areas.”

Marks and Spencer have stores in Foyleside and at Crescent Link Retail Park.
