There has been an outpouring of grief in Moville and across the North West and country following the tragic deaths of John (49), Tomas (14) and Amelia (6) Mullan.

Gardai said the car had been travelling from Muff towards Quigley’s Point when the driver lost control and the vehicle skidded across the road and down the embankment and plunged into the water. Geraldine Mullan (45), John’s wife and the mother of Tomas and Amelia, managed to exit the car and sought assistance.

The heartbreaking tragedy has devastated the local community, where the family were well known and popular.

Due to Covid 19 restrictions, the funeral Mass later today at St Pius X Church in Moville will be celebrated with limited numbers. However, it is understood that many in the local community will undertake a Guard of Honour through the town, in line with social distancing, to pay tribute to the family and show their support to Geraldine, a nurse.

Donegal County Councillor Martin Farren, who lives in Moville, said the entire community had been left devastated by the loss.

The funeral Mass can be viewed online at www.movilleparish.com at 11am.
