Lakeview staff develop a poster to explain PPE to Adults with Learning Disability

Staff at Lakeview Hospital, Gransha Park, use visual strategies and the use of social stories to support communication with patients  and have developed a poster to explain what they will look like wearing PPE to protect themselves and their clients during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Michelle McCloskey is a staff nurse at Lakeview and is pictured in the poster explaining to patients why their nurse Michelle looks very different with her mask, apron and gloves on but is still Michelle underneath!

Christine McLaughlin, Assistant Director for Adult Learning Disability said: “This is an important example of the type of on going and responsive work our nursing and behaviour support staff have developed in Lakeview Hospital to support the communication with our patients around the current changes in respect of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Such changes can be unnerving for some of our patients and the use of this simple aid affords an important level of support and care to our patients during this challenging and stressful time. The efforts of all involved in taking this type of work forward are really appreciated.”
