The PSNI have been conducing patrols in Derry after a number of instances of people ignoring the COVID-19 public health advice over the weekend.

"Officers from the Foyleside and Moor Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPTs) are conducting patrols today to ensure everyone's safety during COVID19 .

"Our streets, parks and public walkways are empty. We would like to say thank you to all of you for playing your part," police said.

Pro-active patrols were also carried out at the weekend in order to provide a 'high visibility presence' during the crisis.

However, not everyone was following the public health advice.

"Unfortunately we had to deal with some incidents where people were not following the regulations from the Northern Ireland Executive and Department of Health.

"These included a group of young people playing football and also someone travelling to a meeting that was contrary to the regulations.

"We do understand the desire of people to carry out what have been normal activities but at present we must protect the public and the NHS.

"We appeal again for your cooperation in abiding by the regulations and remember we will Engage, Explain, Encourage and only Enforce as a last resort," said Strand Road.
