A clinical nurse on the front-line of the fight against COVID-19 has asked people to help her and her colleagues deal with an expected surge in cases over the next three weeks.

Orla Houston, who works at Ward 31, Altnagelvin’s section for people with suspected COVID-19 and patients who have tested positive, stressed that everyone can play their part in stopping the infection.

These particular patients need hospital treatment and care. I am here to help them. So please help me and my colleagues by staying at home,” she said.

Ms. Houston asked people to practise social distancing and keep two metres away from people in public.

“Please limit any contact with anyone over the age of 70, anyone with underlying health conditions, or anyone who is pregnant. Please wash your hands properly at every opportunity and please encourage your children to do the same.

"Look after your own health by practising everything that I have said and by doing so you will play your part in this fight.”
