Urban Pilgrimage through Derry

Those aged 16 to 25 are being urged to join other walking pilgrims as they set off across the Saturday next Saturday, March 5.

Those taking part will leave from St Eugene’s Catholic Cathedral at 12.45pm.

The first of five stopping sites will be the Holy Family Parish in Ballymagroarty.

The second stop will be in the Three Patrons parish at St Brigid’s Church, Carnhill, followed by Our Lady of Lourdes, Steelstown.

From here, the young pilgrims will walk to St Columba’s Church, Long Tower before the final stop back at the Cathedral at 6.15pm for Mass.

A spokesman for the organisers, the Derry Diocese’s Youth Ministry said: “This is an opportunity to go on Pilgrimage without leaving the city, visiting the five Churches in Derry, praying together at each station and reflecting on the Year of Mercy.

“The final stop on the Pilgrimage will be through the Holy Door at St Eugene’s Cathedral.

Pope Francis has asked young people to be “revolutionaries” and to “swim against the tide”.

“The Church needs you, your enthusiasm, your creativity and the joy which is so characteristic of you as young people,” he has said.
