The Enagh Lough Winter Clean Up will be undertaken on Sunday, January 17, and is being organised by Enagh Youth Forum. It will take place from 2pm to 4pm, with volunteers urged to assemble at Judges Road for 2pm.

Appealing for volunteers, Paul Hughes from Enagh Youth Forum said: “If you can spare a few hours please get in touch and do one thing to help protect the local wildlife and environment at Enagh Lough!

“This is an area of great natural beauty and it is everyone’s responsibility to help look after it.”

Mr Hughes said that the Forum were also continuing to lobby Council to invest in the area by providing much needed changing facilities for the many schools, colleges and youth groups that utilise the Enagh Lough area for canoeing, kayaking and outdoor learning.

“This is something that the local community has long requested and it is outlined in our community plan Strathfoyle 2015-2020,” he said.

Research has indicated that the lough is one of the most important historical sites in the north west, with a story stretching back to Neolithic times. The site was important in the development of the Early Christian Church and O’Cahan’s Castle was sited here in the 14th Century.
