Speaking at yesterday’s meeting of the Environmental Services committee Maurice Devenney of the DUP said he knew that pumps put in were supposed to have done away with the odour, however at times it is still there and he had received complaints about it.

A representative from NI Water told Mr Devenney that there had been a huge investment in the pumps at Duke Street which had greatly improved the problem.

However they were aware that there was still an odour there at times.

There are now plans to carry out further investigations to try and sort out the problem, councillors were told.

There are plans to investigate a shaft in Dunfield Terrace which could be the source of the smell.

“We hope to sort to sort out the problem,” the NI Water representative said.
