Health Minister Michelle O’Neill revealed that under the European cross-border healthcare scheme, which is managed by the Department of Health in England on behalf of the devolved administrations, the Western Trust received £46,927 in 2013/14; £83,496 in 2014/15; and £79,020 in 2015/16: £209,443 in total.

An EHIC allows European Union citizens to get state healthcare in other European Economic Area (EEA) countries and Switzerland at a reduced cost or sometimes for free.

There has,as yet, been no change to the rights and status of EU nationals in the UK as a result of the referendum.
