Up until then, however, the respective sports clubs in the city and in Inishowen were in full flight and the 'Journal' photographers were on hand to capture some memorable moments.
Trojans and Oxford United provided the opposition for the Derry & District Youth Under-14 squad in challenge games which were part of their preparation for the upcoming 'Paradise' and Foyle Cup tournaments.
There was Schools Cup action between Foyle and Campbell College with the Derry school losing 22-20.
St Canice's U16 team also won their League Cup at only their third attempt in Gaelic Football while Ballyliffin Golf Club were awarded the Club of the Year award.
