The 35 year-old Prehen woman, who recently clinched the overall female title in the Titanic Games, secured the 35 plus female category at the prestigious Irish Throwdown event.

The tournament attracts some of the top CrossFit athletes in Europe who showcase their skills over a gruelling two day event and features Olympic lifting movements, gymnastic skills like rope climbing and pistol squats and cardio based activities, including swimming.

Lisa who coaches and trains out of CrossFit Derry in Pennyburn Industrial Estate, manages her busy lifestyle by fitting her training in at CrossFit’s popular 5.30am class - an exercise programme which combines cardio with resistance and weight training - and she’s clearly reaping the benefits.

A delighted Curran said explained how far she’s come since first joining CrossFit. “I heard about CrossFit four years ago from a friend,” she said. “I was so scared I had to get my husband to go in for me. Once I was in I was welcomed by so many people and had so much fun, it has now become like my second home.”

There were five other athletes competing from CrossFit Derry over the weekend as they returned with 2nd, 6th and 8th place medals from the different categories.
