DERRY GAA: Lynn facing races against time

The Greenlough forward, who had been in superb form in the final, is expected to have his leg in a cast for six weeks and faces a race against time to feature in any of the Oak Leafers’ National League Division Two campaign which ends on April 3rd unless Derry make the final which takes place on April 24th.

Brendan Rogers required 14 stitches after a shocking challenge from Tyrone’s Tiarnan McCann only seconds after throw-in and will likely miss the league opener against Fermanagh but may be back for the second game.

Reflecting on a costly night in the Athletic Grounds, Derry assistant manager Tony Scullion said it highlighted the need for depth in the panel.

“It is not a 15 man game any longer. You need 21, you need 31 or 41 players all ready to step up to the plate and Conor McAtamney was brilliant when he came on but I’m disappointed for Brendan Rogers.

“He is a great young lad, a great player from Slaughtneil and it’s disappointing about Enda Lynn as well because Enda has been a great servant over the last few years for Derry and he was having a great game in the final.

“The two lads will be an awful loss to us in the National League.”
