Sean Connor's side had been in limbo over the summer, unsure what division they would be playing in, as they appealed the Northern Ireland Football League's decision to relegate them via a basic mathematical formula after the season was ended by the COVID-19 pandemic.

'Stute's relegation was confirmed last week when the IFA dismissed their appeal with the club then deciding not to pursue what may have been a costly arbitration process.

And with Institute boss Sean Connor now facing a major rebuilding job, he will have to do so without the services of both Dean Curry and Ryan Morrow after the Mallards confirmed the duo had agreed deals to move to Ferney Park, where they will be joined by another ex-Stute player, Niall Grace, who joins the championship club from Bonagee United.

“I’m delighted that we have made three strong additions to our squad for the season ahead," said Ballinamallard manager, Harry McConkey, "All three players will add something different and come with plenty of experience under their belts.

"We must keep growing as a squad, as the Championship will be ultra competitive.”

Right back Morrow, who has been with Institute since 2016 but is expected to put pen to paper for the Mallards this weekend, thanked the Waterside club following his departure.

"Buzzing to have signed for Ballinamallard. Can’t wait to get back enjoying it again," he tweeted following confirmation of the move, "I'd like to thank Institute F.C. for four great years and thank everyone involved there!"

The loss of two experienced defenders and last season's captain in Curry will be a huge blow as Connor looks to make up for lost ground in terms of building a squad which can challenge at the top end of the championship table.
