Danish right-back, Vemmelund (23), who has recently returned from a holiday in Thailand, is expected to complete Shiels’ defensive line-up as he joins skipper Ryan McBride, Aaron Barry, Dean Jarvis and Patrick McClean.

Vemmelund won the Icelandic championship with UMF Stjarnan and played a part in their 2014 UEFA Europa League run as they knocked out SPL side Motherwell and reached the play-offs in 2014 before losing to Inter Milan.

Good with both feet, Vemmelund has played for the Danish U19 international side and has played for OB Odense and FC Fyn.

Meanwhile, Barcelona-born midfielder, Delgado (22) had impressed on his last visit to Derry during a friendly fixture against Institute but was lacking in fitness.

However, the 6ft 2’’ midfielder, who was recently plying his trade in the Spanish third tier, is rated highly by Shiels who feels the Spaniard could add some extra steel to the City midfield and the Derry boss asked him to return ahead of the club’s pre-season campaign and secured his signature this morning (Monday).

Delgado and Vemmelund follow new signings, Rory Patterson, Gareth McGlynn, Nathan Boyle, Jordan Allen and Harry Monaghan in committing to the Brandywell club for the 2016 season.
