Derry City suspend group training until further notice

DERRY CITY Football Club has announced it will suspend group training following a recommendation from the FAI.

The Brandywell club will meet today and issue individual training programmes for players and will remotely monitor player progress via GPS.

Following advice on self-isolation and social distancing, Derry City boss, Declan Devine will be in regular contact with his squad and staff members via telephone and social media.

The measures are expected to be in play until Sunday, March 22nd when the situation will be reviewed by the club and the FAI.

The League of Ireland has been suspended until March 29th.

The statement issued by the club read: "Derry City FC will not be engaging in any group training by the first team or any of the junior teams this week, as recommended by the FAI.

"This decision will be reviewed on Sunday 22 March 2020. We believe this is the safest option for our players, their families and the community in general.

"Individual training programmes have been given to the players and remote monitoring via GPS will be used to assess the players’ progress. The manager and staff will be in regular contact with the players via phone/social media.

"DCFC Physio Michael Hegarty, will coordinate treatment of the injured players, taking the appropriate precautions.

"We are in daily contact with the FAI regarding this fast changing situation and we will notify our season ticket holders and fans of any relevant updates.

"We hope that all teams will follow suit and we have communicated the above to the FAI."
