The 20 year-old former Republic of Ireland U17 international has returned to Ireland after a spell in Cyprus with AEK Larnaca where he scored once in nine appearances.

Declan Devine is on the lookout for a replacement striker before the resumption of the League of Ireland Premier Division at the end of the month following the departure of Norwegian, Tim Nilsen who left the club last week.

And Leicester born, Keaveny, whose grandmother is understood to hail from Derry, led the attack during the first half of tonight's 1-1 draw with Dundalk.

In fact the young striker had a part to play in Derry's opening goal as goalscorer, Walter Figueira latched onto his back heel and fired past Gary Rogers after just nine minutes.

Another new face in Devine's squad for the friendly fixture with the Lilywhites was London-born forward Lifumpa Mwandwe who replaced Conor Clifford on 72 minutes.

Mwande, who can play on the wing or up front is formerly of Shrewsbury Town where he made his first team debut in 2017 as a 16 year-old and has represented Zambia under-20s.

City boss, Devine stated last week he was hoping to strengthen his squad, particularly at the top end of the pitch before the season resumed and was preparing to make a double signing.

"We are talking to quite a few people at the minute," said the City boss. "A lot of players are waiting on clarification from their own set-ups to see where they’re at so we are just sitting tight and seeing where we are."
