Nick Twist urges strong finish to league campaign for Derry

DERRY CITY midfielder Nick Twists stressed the importance of taking momentum into the club's 'biggest game of the season' in the FAI Cup Final next month as they aim to finish their league campaign on a high.

The Dutchman has been in fine form since his arrival on Foyleside from AZ Alkmaar and while he claimed Derry simply 'didn't get lucky' in the 2-0 loss to Drogheda on Friday night, he wasn't overly despondent about the performance.

Derry dominated the majority of the ball and scoring chances but lost to two 'sh*te' goals according to the straight-talking midfielder.

He expects the club to pick up their form for the remaining three league matches, starting with tonight’s home clash against St Pat’s and the remaining two against Dundalk and Sligo Rovers.

"This is a tough place to come," he said after the Drogheda defeat. "I've never been here before today but I heard from the guys that they didn't win here for the last three years I think so it's a tough place to go and then you can see we conceded a really sh**te goal to be honest.

"They are really hard to break down because they're sitting in on their own box all the time. I think we did play some good football the whole game but we didn't get lucky.

"We're happy to play because we're in a good shape the last couple of weeks. Today for 90 per cent of the game we played really well. We didn't get lucky, they got two lucky goals and we missed loads of chances so it wasn't our day today."

Derry are back in action last night at Brandywell against title chasing St Pat's and Twisk hasn't given up hope of finishing in fourth spot.

"We want to finish the season well in all of the three games so we have momentum to take to our biggest game of our season – the final at the Aviva.

"I think we will manage to do it because we are a really good group and we're in good shape and we were just unlucky.

"All the fans will help and support us to do that. If you can see how many tickets are sold for the final you can see they will support us no matter what. We're in a good mood. We try to finish the season as well as possible."
