FUN RUN: St Columb's Park braced for superhero invasion

Derry City and Strabane District Council and Live Active NI are inviting the young and young at heart to don their costumes and unleash their inner super hero this Sunday when they host a '˜Get Out Get Active' Superfamily 2k run.

St Columb's Park will host a Get Out Get Active Superfamily 2k run on Sunday.

Entrants are invited to take part dressed as their favourite superhero for the family orientated event at the Foyle Arena and St Columb’s Park that aims to encourage people of all ages and abilities to be active together.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Alderman Hilary McClintock, encouraged the public to book now to secure their place in the field that will be capped at 250 people.

“This is a brilliant way for people of all ages to be active together and have a great morning’s fun in the process,” she said.

“The scenic 2k course is suitable for all ages, fitness levels and physical abilities and seeing the superheroes weave their way around St Columb’s Park will certainly be a sight to behold.

“The Get Out Get Active programme is doing a fantastic job at reaching out to sections of the community who wouldn’t normally take part in physical activity to promote healthier lifestyle choices and this event is another effective way of achieving that.”

All participants will receive a medal and refreshments on completion of the course which is suitable for wheelchairs.

The course will start at the Foyle Arena and go via St Columb’s Garden boundaries before looping back to the Arena.

Registration is open at the Foyle Arena from 9.30am – 10.45am on Sunday with the race beginning at 11.00am.
