Coronavirus: Derry GAA give clubs fixture reassurance as fight against COVID-19 continues

The Derry County Board has reassured clubs at least two weeks preparation time will be set aside before the resumption of club fixtures as it continues to review plans for coping with the current COVID-19 pandemic.

All GAA activity remains suspended while the country seeks to minimise the impact of the pandemic with Croke Park today announcing the cancellation of a number of coaching and games initiatives. Included among the list of events cancelled is the Féile na nÓg National football tournaments which were to be held across Derry, Donegal and Tyrone from 26th - 28th June.

Also cancelled are the Féile na Gael 2020 in hurling and camogie which was to be hosted in Dublin, Kildare and Meath on June 5th, 6th and 7th.

However, with the Derry club season due to start in April, Derry C.C.C. have said they will continue to liaise with clubs throughout the crisis but admitted it is inevitable the pandemic will impact the 2020 season.

"As part of our efforts surrounding the current Covid-19 situation Derry GAA will communicate regularly with our clubs to ensure that we keep you aware of important matters," read a statement from the Derry Co. Board.

"We are all aware of the uncertainty around future GAA activity over the coming weeks and months. Such a suspension could and will impact on our competition structures at all levels. Derry CCC will review and plan for different scenarios over the coming days and weeks with any future changes subject to the agreement of clubs.

"Derry CCC reassures all clubs that a period of 2-3 weeks will be set aside for club preparations to take place prior to the resumption of games.
