McKinley, who is currently in charge of the Slaughtneil camogs, and Donnelly were ratified last night by the County Board to succeed John McEvoy who stepped down earlier this month after two years in charge of the Oak Leafers.

This will be the vastly experienced McKinley's second stint as Derry manager after a spell back in 2002 while Carrickmore manager Donnelly is no stranger to Derry hurling after coaching Slaughtneil to Derry and Ulster glory under Michael McShane.

McKinley, a 1983 All-Ireland Club winner with his club Loughgiel Shamrocks, has played a crucial role in Slaughtneil's recent domination of All-Ireland club camogie while Donnelly steered Carrickmore to the Tyrone hurling crown. Ironically, Derry champions Slaughtneil are due to face Loughgiel camogs in the re-fixed Ulster Final on Saturday, February 6th 2021.
