More than 350 people attended the event, creating a vibrant atmosphere as families enjoyed a wide variety of activities throughout the day. Popular attractions included Sponge the Coach, Target Kicking, Duck Pull and the ever-popular sumo wrestling station, ensuring entertainment for visitors of all ages.
A range of food and refreshments was also available, with a barbecue, coffee stand, ice cream stall and treat station helping attendees refuel between activities. The success of the event was made possible by the dedication and commitment of the club’s volunteers. More than 40 volunteers played a role in planning, organising and running the day, ensuring everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Club PRO, Séanan Heaney, who led the organisation of the event, praised the efforts of those involved.
“There was such a great buzz around the club and the atmosphere was amazing to see,” she said. "It wouldn’t have been possible without all of the superstars who helped make it happen. It was a great show of community spirit and we look forward to building on this again in the future.”
The Family Fun Day also provided the perfect platform to launch the club’s biggest-ever fundraising initiative, The City Quid Games. The action-packed event is scheduled to take place on November 28th at St. Columb’s Hall and promises an exciting evening of games and entertainment. Participants will have the opportunity to compete for a top prize of £10,000, which can be shared between themselves and a chosen club, charity or local cause. This promises to be an amazing event and one not to be missed.
Funds raised through the initiative will contribute towards the club’s ambitious ‘New Pitch’ project, which is planned for the Ballyarnett area. With more than 20 teams currently representing Steelstown Brian Ógs, ranging from four-year-old youth members through to the club’s popular ‘Mothers and Others’ and ‘Dads and Lads’ teams, the need for additional facilities has become a major priority.
Alongside its sporting ambitions, the club is continuing to strengthen its connections within the wider local community. Committee members are currently developing and promoting a community vision aimed at opening the club further to local residents and organisations, ensuring Steelstown Brian Ógs remains at the heart of community life for years to come.
The success of the Family Fun Day demonstrated both the strength of community support for the club and the enthusiasm surrounding its future plans, with organisers hopeful that this year’s event will become an even bigger fixture in the local calendar in the years ahead.
