GREYHOUND RACING: Three finals at Lifford on Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday will see the finals of three competitions on a 12-strong race card that includes four open races at Lifford Stadium (first race 4pm).

The ‘Track Lotto Sprint’ over 350 yards looks the most open of all the finals. On semi-final form there is only two lengths between five of the finalists on time so it’s a real difficult final for punters and the betting should be very lively. However, I think the trap draw could be the deciding factor in this final and in my view ‘Friday’s Rome’ in trap one is the best drawn dog in the final. The May ‘14 dog, owned by Paul Whyte, opened his account in good fashion last week in the semi final, winning in a time of 19.08. That was from trap three and with a more favourable trap one draw in Sunday’s final, he is selected to win for his Lifford based owner.

The final of the Sean ‘Smurf’ Diver Cup over 525 yards again looks a very open final. ‘Halo Polly’, owned by John Kelly, will start favourite in this final. The May ‘14 bitch ran really well to win her semi-final last week. She fell from traps in that race but ran really well around the opening bend and took the lead along the back straight. She did tire in the home straight but held on to win by just under a length in a time of 29.69 from the fast finishing ‘Fridays Express’ who looked unlucky in the race. ‘Halo Polly’ will start favourite from trap one but I think ‘Friday’s Express’ is the value bet in this final and he can land a memorable double for Whyte.

The ‘Track Lotto Tri-Distance’ over 575 yards will be the last of the finals on the card and ‘Tiernan’s Gift’ will be a odds-on favourite to win this one. ‘Tiernan’s Gift’, trained by Tommy Light, was a very impressive winner in last week’s semi-final over 550 yards. The Jan ‘14 dog took the lead going in to the first bend and from there, he ran right away to win by over eight lengths in a time of 30.49.

The step up to 575 yards will also be a major plus for ‘Tiernan’s Gift’ in this final and he is the selected to win for his Belfast based trainer. First race on Sunday is at 4pm.

Please note, there will be no racing on Easter Saturday at the track.

Easter Monday Racing at Brandywell

There will be racing as normal at Brandywell Stadium on Easter Monday with the first race due off at 8.00pm.

Tthe ‘Track Lotto Sprint’ will be the main race on the card and ‘Corrakelly Max’, trained by Willie Mullan, will be the favourite for this final. The June 14 pup showed good early pace to win its semi-final last week in a time of 17.24. ‘Corrakelly Ma’ cannot be opposed on semi-final form and is selected to win the final for her Foyle Road trainer.

There were no winners of the track lotto last Monday when the numbers drawn were 7, 24 and 30. Monday’s jackpot now stands at £3,125 and tickets can be bought before the first race at 8.00pm.
