The Ballyarnett club are close to opening their new clubhouse while four of their mens’ senior team are currently members of Tom McLean’s Derry Senior hurling panel so there has never been a better time to join the club.

Children from across the city participate in Camogie and Hurling during and after school as part of the new programme which was devised by Na Magha club coach, Sean Mellon, as a means of helping kids to make the transition from school to club.

The ‘Parish League’ programme gives parents an insight into the sporting and social skills their children learn through play and there has been a great turnout of children to date. A number have enjoyed it so much they have also started attending normal club sessions which is an aim of the programme which is hoping to ultimately increase participation across all age levels within the city.

“We have been delighted with the numbers and with how the ‘Parish League’ has gone,” said a club spokesperson.

“We welcomed new girls Molly, Farrah, Sarah, Chloe, Eva and Erin recently who, despite attending our Friday night session, followed through to attend our Saturday morning camogie sessions and are now looking forward to attending upcoming blitzes.”

The Na Magha ‘Parish League’ takes place on Friday nights in St. Brigid’s College from 7.00pm to 8.30pm and continues this Friday (February 12th) with new members always most welcome regardless of ability.
