NW SNOOKER: Shantallow bag three-in-a-row title treble in style

LAST WEEK'S concluding programme of fixtures in Division One of the North-West Snooker Handicap League saw Shantallow House complete a three-in-a-row title hat-trick when, needing just a single point from their final outing at Glendermott CC, they finished the job in grand style (4-1).

The Rectory Field potters, chasing an unlikely five-point harvest to force a dead-heat, soon knew their fate when Peter Doherty put the title to bed by taking the opening frame without undue difficulty. And with further untroubled wins from Pete Murphy, Joe Porter and Stephen Brady, the Racecourse Road champions signed off another triumphant campaign on a high. Davy Clifford’s comfortable verdict spared the cricketers the ‘duck egg’ blushes.

AOH Club’s 3-2 foray to Real Oak, coupled with the ‘Glens’ heavy defeat, enabled them to take the runners-up honours. Close verdicts from Seamus Cusack and Shea Moore, allied to Ray Barrow’s cushy victory, put the Hibs 3-0 up, before Kevin Doherty and Gerry Crossan performed a damage limitation exercise (comfortable wins apiece).

Hollywood and Tracey’s ‘A’, joint bottom before the curtain-down call, signed off with home wins (4-1 and 3-2), the Waterside team’s extra point handing the William Street side the unwanted ‘wooden spoon’ caretaker’s job.

The four ‘star’ performers for Hollywood were Stephen Heaney (36 break), Graham Sadler, Richard Long and Ryan Barrow, with Hugh Campbell picking up a consolation point for the Tracey’s ‘147’ visitors.

Match-winning trio for Tracey’s ‘A’ against Dolan’s were Gavin Gallagher, Brian McCourt and Alan Healy (neat 29 sequence). Strikers for the Gaels were Kevin McKeever and Sean Paul McCauley, both shining up their victories with compilations of 53 and 49 respectively.
