City of Derry calls for 'Social Supermarket' donations to help those in food poverty

City of Derry Rugby Club has called on it members to support the city's 'Social Supermarket' by donating food and household items at the club this Saturday.

The Social supermarket was set up in 2018 to help people living in food poverty. It's based in the Apex Housing Building in Springtown Industrial Estate, providing products at a reduced price to people receiving welfare payments and tax credits.

"City of Derry Rugby Club has decided to support our local community this Christmas by donating to the social supermarket based in the APEX building in Springtown," read a City of Derry club statement

"The organisation require the following household items: tea, coffee, fabric softener, sugar, washing powder, male/female cleaning products, dried/long life foods etc. Alternatively, you can donate a small amount on Saturday to assist with the running costs of this worthy organisation. Please support our local community this Christmas."
