SNOOKER: '˜Glens' prevail in Waterside derby as Tracey's ease past Oak

THE POTTERS of Glendermott CC and Tracey's Bar emerged unscathed from last week's penultimate round stage of the North-West Premier Snooker Cup, the Cricket Club '˜stumping' Waterside cue companions Dee's '˜Muckers' on points, while the Tracey's team defeated Oak Grove 4-1 in untroubled fashion.

GLENS 3 (369 PTS), DEE’S 3 (320 PTS), at Tracey’s Bar – The Rectory Field club led 2-1 at half-time through Davy Clifford (cosy) and Maurice Ferguson (close), with Simon Cooke replying for the Hollywood Avenue team by a decisive margin.

Team captain Clifford returned to the fray in frame four and completed a hollow 2-0 victory over a match-rusty sub to put the ‘Glens’ very much in the driving seat (3-1 ‘beefed up’ by 93 points). And though Stephen Heaney (narrowly) and team captain Cooke (snugly) evened up the scores on frames, the points deficit proved unbridgeable.

Frame Scores – Davy Clifford 2, Peter Logue 0 (79-33 and 84-16); Maurice Ferguson 1, Stephen Heaney 1 (58-43 and 57-58); Steve Weekes 0. Simon Cooke 2 (43-79 and 48-91).

TRACEY’S 4, OAK 1, at AOH Club – Gerald McCloskey’s 2-0 win, allied to strikes from Emmett Casson (1-1) and Anthony McGill (1-0), secured the William Street side an easier-than-expected penultimate passage to the final.

McCloskey’s emphatic straight frames decision over Shea Norris included best breaks of 35 clearance (first) and 36 (second). Casson shared the spoils in his two-frame session with Stephen Brady, the Tracey’s potter belying a 32 sequence to take the opener by a modest margin, before the Oak talisman (34 break) dominated exchanges in the return. McGill out-pointed Paul Donaghy without undue difficulty.
