St Columb's College hurlers crowned Ulster champions

St. Columb's College hurlers made history last week when they lifted the Gerard Maguire Cup as Ulster Colleges' '˜C' champions at Under 16.5 level in Owenbeg.

This is the first time that the school’s team has lifted the Corn Ghearóid Mhic Uidhir and only the school’s second ever hurling title, having previously won the Year 9 Corn Rehill three years ago.

Managed by Bliadhan Glass and Gearalt ó Mianáin, the St Columb’s lads played some fantastic hurling, especially in the final against Coláiste Ormeau from Belfast.

The backbone of the team was made up of players from city club, Na Magha. Joint captains, Tim Rankin and Morgan Ó Muirí, were presented the cup by recently retired Derry and Ulster hurling legend, Kevin Hinphey.
