TUG OF WAR: World Championship gold for Inishowen competitors
Liam Strain (Burnfoot), Adrian Lynch (Buncrana), Paul Duffy (Buncrana) and Manus Doherty (Clonmany) are members of the Co. Louth based St. Pats Tug of War Team who claimed THREE gold and one silver medal while also helping Ireland to team gold in the 560kg category. The team had already won the Irish National Championships to qualify for the World Championships.
The following is the medal haul that these four men helped secure;

560kg category: WORLD SILVER – Manus Doherty and Paul Duffy
600kg category: WORLD GOLD – Liam Strain and Paul Duffy
640kg category: WORLD GOLD – Liam Strain and Adrian Lynch
680kg category: WORLD GOLD – Adrian Lynch and Liam Strain

Two other Inishowen competitors, Carndonagh duo Cathal McLaughlin and Anthony Doherty, also represented Ireland in the 600kg category, alongside Burnfoot’s Strain (Burnfoot), eventually finishing fourth after losing out to the Basque Country by less than an inch.
The total individual medal haul for the Inishowen contingent was NINE GOLDS, TWO SILVERS AND THREE BRONZE. The individuals recipients were as follows; Liam Strain (Burnfoot) won 4 World Golds; Adrian Lynch (Buncrana) won 3 World Golds and 2 World Bronze; Paul Duffy (Buncrana) won 1 World Gold, 1 World Silver and 1 World Bronze; Manus Doherty (Clonmany) won 1 World Gold and 1 World Silver.
